چکیده

Dental waxes are often a blend of several waxes that are necessary to develop the most desirable qualities. In general, more information is available on physical properties and manipulation of dental waxes than on the composition or nature of the ingredients. Since heats of transition are fundamental in characterizing the chemical nature of matter, this information was obtained from waxes and blends and was correlated with other known properties to establish the behavior of the waxes and to eventually maximize the individual characteristics of each in blends. Calorimetric analyses of paraffin waxes have been conducted by several authors.1-4 These analyses characterized the heats of transition and the heats of fusion of commercial paraffin waxes and of comparable pure n-paraffins. A differential thermal analysis (DTA) study of waxes was done by the authors5 of the present study. The purpose of this study was to apply calorimetric analysis to the waxes used in dentistry. These waxes included binary mixtures of paraffin wax with carnauba and beeswax and several commercial dental waxes. Heats of transition were determined, and the interactions between waxes in the mixtures were evaluated as a function of composition and wax.

Thermogravimetric analysis of waxes.

Differential thermal analysis and calorimetric analysis of commercial and dental waxes have been reported in the dental literature."2 Thermogravimetric analysis is described in most textbooks on thermal analysis3-5 and is essentially a method of measuring the weight of a sample as a function of temperature or as a function of time at a fixed temperature. The purpose of this study was to examine...

Differential thermal analysis of commercial and dental waxes.

Since phase changes generally result in dimensional changes, the temperatures at which the phase changes occur in waxes and the influence of adding one wax to another are important in understanding the behavior of waxes. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) offers a useful tool in the study of phase transitions. This study examines the temperature of phase transitions for various commercial, den...

Penetration of commercial and dental waxes.

Thermomechanical analysis (TMA) measures the mechanical response of a material as it is programmed linearly through a selected temperature range.' The techniques used in TMA include linear expansion, volumetric expansion, tensile elongation, torsional modulus, and penetration. Comparison of TMA penetration curves with curves of transition temperatures obtained from differential thermal analysis...

Thermal analysis of dental impression waxes.

Ten dental impression waxes were characterized by penetration and differential thermal analysis. Penetration and initial transition temperatures were directly correlated. Penetration at 37 C ranged from 2.5 to 22% for bite waxes and was 100% for corrective waxes. Distortion of an impression wax may occur upon removal from the mouth.

مقایسه میزان سیلان و ضریب انبساط حرارتی خطی چند نوع موم بیس پلیت با استاندارد ADA

Waxes have a lot of applications in dentistry. Such materials are of thermoplastic type that undergoes deformation in different temperatures. Two important properties of base plate waxes are flow and their coefficient of linear thermal expansion. Recently, different institutions, inside the country, produce dentistry waxes, while they have not been standardized. Consequently, consumers' dissati...
